‘9/10 Egyptian women are victims of sexual harrassment’

9/10 is a staggering statistic, one that i often agonise over

this track is FOR the 9/10 women,
for all women,
for myself,
for trans, gnc and queer people,
for everyone who’s struggling trying to figure out how to heal their hurt, or questioning whether its even possible.

these songs get written as a way for me to process my emotions, creatively channel them so that i can at least have the solace that something good came from all the pain.

they help me heal, and i really hope they help you too 🌱

last year, when egyptian women started sharing their experiences more openly, i was so inspired and proud of the conversations that were finally being had on a larger scale. at the same time, i found myself sinking back into my unresolved emotions, watching my mental health plummet and experiencing lots of ptsd. so i had to step back and figure out how to take care of myself, all the while feeling guilty for not being as vocal as i wanted to be about it all. i still feel guilty sometimes, even tho i know that it’s important for me to learn how to choose and care for myself.

aside from being a truly special artist, mona is someone who showed me a level of love, compassion and support that i never could have imagined receiving from a stranger. she is someone who cares so deeply and does so much for her community and i’m so grateful that i got to know her (virtually) over the past year. she was there for me in such a beautiful way so im overjoyed to have her art represent this vulnerable track!! she’s a dream to work with and encouraged me through all of my doubts and insecurities. super grateful for her and my friends who have pushed me to get loud 📢

so here it is, 9/10 - my offering to everyone who’s struggling with their trauma and trying to heal. im with you and i promise you, though it’s slow, it is possible.
